Valoración e índice de salud de la colección de Hymenoptera del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural de Cuba

Abstract

La importancia de las colecciones de historia natural cada vez se hace más evidente ante la acelerada pérdida de especies. Los ejemplares depositados en las colecciones son pruebas infalibles de la existencia de esos animales en la Tierra. Sin embargo, muchas veces se subvaloran y no se les brinda la atención que realmente merecen. La colección de Hymenoptera del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural de Cuba es una de las colecciones más grandes del país. Sin embargo, hasta el momento se desconoce el estado de sus ejemplares y del inmueble, por lo que el presente trabajo pretende evaluar el estado de dicha colección. Esta consta de 5862 ejemplares los cuales están ordenados en 3 estantes con 12 gavetas cada uno. De estos, 35 son ejemplares tipos, 5627 pertenecen a las colecciones básicas y exóticas, 182 ejemplares carece de alguna información faltante como, el colector y 18 ejemplares están sin identificar perteneciente a un lote recién colectado. La colección se encuentra muy bien conservada y con niveles adecuados de climatización. La accesibilidad a esta por parte de otros investigadores es buena y la presencia de estos ejemplares en publicaciones es elevada. Esta colección se encuentra bien organizada y catalogada, con todas sus etiquetas y los ejemplares en buen estado. The importance of natural history collections is becoming increasingly evident in the face of the accelerated loss of species. The specimens deposited in the collections are infallible proof of the existence of these animals on Earth. However, they are often undervalued and not given the attention they truly deserve. The Hymenoptera collection of the National Museum of Natural History of Cuba is one of the largest collections in the country. However, so far the status of their copies and property is unknown, so this work aims to assess the status of this collection. This consists of 5862 copies which are arranged in 3 shelves with 12 drawers each. Of these, 35 are exemplary types, 5627 belong to the basic and exotic collections, 182 specimens lack some missing information such as, the collector and 18 specimens are unidentified belonging to a recently collected lot. The collection is very well preserved and with adequate levels of air conditioning. The accessibility to this by other researchers is good and the presence of these copies in publications is high. This collection is well organized and cataloged, with all its labels and copies in good condition.
