40 años de investigaciones socioeconómicas en el Instituto de Geografía Tropical. Una contribución al pensamiento geográfico cubano.

Abstract

El Instituto de Geografía Tropical se fundó el 9 de marzo de 1962, con el nombre de Instituto de Geografía y Geología, “orientado hacia el logro del mejor aprovechamiento y de la más adecuada transformación del medio natural y socioeconómico para beneficio de la colectividad humana” (Breve historia del Instituto de Geografía…..,1973). Sus oficinas radicaron en un inicio en el Capitolio Nacional. En sus inicios, las tareas fueron de carácter organizativo y se crearon los primeros 4 departamentos científicos: Geografía Física, Geografía Económica, Espeleología y Cartografía, con sus perfiles particulares. El Departamento de Geografía Económica, con el paso de los años y el ingreso de nuevos Licenciados, se fue desarrollando y se crearon 3 grupos de trabajo: Estudios Poblacionales e Industriales; Estudios Rurales y el de Turismo y Transporte, integrados cada uno con una pequeña cantidad de investigadores. El propósito principal del presente estudio es analizar, compilar y mostrar sintéticamente los principales resultados científicos realizados en las distintas ramas de la geografía socioeconómica durante 4 décadas de investigaciones. The Department of Economic Geography, over the years and the entry of new graduates, was developed and 3 working groups were created: Population and Industrial Studies; Rural Studies and Tourism and Transport, each one integrated with a small number of researchers. The main purpose of this study is to analyze, compile and synthetically show the main scientific results made in the different branches of socioeconomic geography during 4 decades of research.
