Turismo en la región del caribe. Aspectos geográfico- ambientales de su desarrollo sostenible.

Abstract

A lo largo del siglo XX, el turismo como actividad económica fue asentándose y consolidándose paulatinamente, y en el último decenio evidenció su pujanza y fuerte posicionamiento a nivel mundial, lo que se deriva así mismo, de la situación ventajosa que mostraron las diversas áreas de desarrollo definidas. En esos resultados se expresan además, de forma indirecta, los avances del mundo contemporáneo en materia de transporte, comunicación e información, que han venido acortando el espacio físico entre naciones. Hay que significar sin embargo, la alta sensibilidad que la actividad muestra ante eventos conflictivos como guerras, desastres naturales, epidemias, recesión e inestabilidad económica. Justamente el decenio 90, se inició con tendencias de fragilidad económica mundial, en 1991 la guerra del Golfo desestabilizo en general y en 1997 se produjeron eventos por enfermedad de turistas, por sólo citar algunos momentos negativos de la década, pues en realidad, todos las situaciones referidas, se hicieron sentir en uno u otro punto del planeta, a pesar de lo cual, las resultantes globales del turismo evidenciaron crecimientos sistemáticos, superando incluso importantes renglones en las exportaciones mundiales.
