Estudios sedimentológicos de un perfil de la Estructura Caimanes (Fosa Oriente)

Abstract

El presente trabajo forma parte de los estudios realizados por el CAME dentro del Problema "Océano Mundial", en el que se realizó una investigación conjunta Cubano-Soviética en el Mar Caribe, dirigida fundamentalmente hacia la caracterización primaria de la Estructura Caimanes (Fosa Oriente). En el marco de esta investigación, nuestros objetivos estuvieron encaminados a conocer la distribución y la relación que los sedimentos tienen con la parte emergida para determinar su posible origen y características. El análisis de los diferentes parámetros analizados, conjuntamente con la introducción de la metodología de caracterización por la técnica de difracción de rayos X, permitieron obtener criterios cualitativos y semicualitativos que incidieron en el correcto conocimiento sobre el origen y tipos de los sedimentos. The present work is part of the studies carried out by the CAME within the "World Ocean" Problem, in which a joint Cuban-Soviet research was carried out in the Caribbean Sea, mainly directed towards the primary characterization of the Caimanes Structure (East Pit). In the framework of this research, our objectives were aimed at knowing the distribution and the relationship that the sediments have with the emerged part to determine their possible origin and characteristics. The analysis of the different parameters analyzed, together with the introduction of the characterization methodology by the X-ray diffraction technique, allowed to obtain qualitative and semi-qualitative criteria that affected the correct knowledge about the origin and types of the sediments.
