Estratigrafía y subdivisión de las zonas de Placetas y Camajuaní en la antigua Provincia de Las Villas (Cuba central)

Abstract

En la porción septentrional de la antigua Provincia de Las Villas están bien desarrollados los depósitos del Jurásico Superior y Cretácico Inferior, que pueden agruparse en varias unidades litoestratigráficas. Sobre la base de las formaciones que están presentes en las distintas áreas, es posible considerar dos zonas estructurofaciales: Placetas al Sur, y Camajuaní al Norte. Asimismo, dichas zonas son susceptibles de una división en subzonas, que son: para Placetas, la de Cifuentes al Sur y la de Rancho Veloz al Norte; para Camajuaní, las de Quemado de Güines, Mata, Zulueta, y Jatibonico, ele Oeste a Este. El estudio de la fauna de ammonites confirma la presencia en este territorio de los pisos Titoniano Medio, Titoniano Superior, Berriasiano, Hauteriviano Superior, y Barremiano Inferior. In the northern portion of the former Province of Las Villas, the upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits are well developed, which can be grouped into several lithostratigraphic units. On the basis of the formations that are present in the different areas, it is possible to consider two structural areas: Placetas to the South, and Camajuaní to the North. Likewise, these zones are susceptible to a division into subzones, which are: for Placetas, that of Cifuentes to the South and that of Rancho Veloz to the North; for Camajuaní, those of Quemado de Güines, Mata, Zulueta, and Jatibonico, from West to East. The study of the fauna of ammonites confirms the presence in this territory of the Middle Titonian, Upper Titonian, Berriasian, Upper Hauterivian, and Lower Barremian floors.
