Inventario de las palmas nativas de Cuba

Abstract

La familia Arecaceae está integrada en Cuba por 15 géneros y 99 taxones infragenéricos (79 especies, 10 subespecies o variedades y 10 híbridos). En total, 86 taxones, constituyen endemismos del territorio nacional, lo cual le confiere una de las proporciones más altas entre las familias botánicas en el representadas. La riqueza y diversidad de palmas de Cuba goza de un amplio reconocimiento entre especialistas de todo el mundo. En la medida que se conozcan mejor a las palmas nativas, se conocerá mejor a la patria. En este trabajo se actualiza, la nomenclatura, distribución geográfica y biogeográfica de la mayoría de las palmas nativas de Cuba. The Arecaceae family is made up in Cuba of 15 genera and 99 infrageneric taxa (79 species, 10 subspecies or varieties and 10 hybrids). In total, 86 taxa are endemic to the national territory, which gives it one of the highest proportions among the botanical families represented. The richness and diversity of Cuban palms enjoys wide recognition among specialists from around the world. To the extent that the native palms are better known, the homeland will be better known. In this work, the nomenclature, geographical and biogeographical distribution of most of the native palms of Cuba is updated.
