Reseña histórica de las investigaciones realizadas sobre microbiología marina en el Golfo de Batabanó, Cuba

Abstract

El Golfo de Batabanó o plataforma sur occidental de Cuba es una de las regiones más estudiadas de la plataforma submarina debido a su significativa contribución a la pesca y el turismo. Desde el punto de vista microbiológico, las investigaciones realizadas en esta zona han permitido conocer la calidad y condiciones tróficas de sus aguas, la intensidad con que ocurre la degradación de la materia orgánica, la magnitud de la biomasa bacteriana disponible como alimento a otros organismos de la trama alimentaria y la distribución, abundancia y diversidad de especies microbianas presentes en los hábitat que conforman el golfo. En el presente trabajo se presenta una reseña histórica que recorre los 25 trabajos de microbiología marina realizados en el Golfo de Batabanó desde 1982 hasta el 2009. The Gulf of Batabanó or Cuban south-western shelf is one of the most studied regions in the submarine shelf, due to its significant contribution to fisheries and tourism. From the microbiological point of view, researches carried out in this area allowed better knowledge of the water quality and trophic conditions, the organic matter degradation intensity, the magnitude of available bacterial biomass as food for other organisms in the trophic web; as well as the distribution, abundance and diversity of microbial species present in the different habitats comprised in the gulf. This work presents a historical review of 25 marine microbiology research papers developed in the Gulf of Batabanó from 1982 to 2009.
