Vertebrados terrestres autóctonos e introducidos de Cayo Caimán del Faro, Archipiélago de Sabana-Camagüey, Villa Clara, Cuba

Abstract

Se realizaron cinco expediciones entre los años 2013 y 2014 para el monitoreo de la fauna de vertebrados del Cayo Caimán del Faro, al norte de la provincia de Villa Clara, Cuba. Además, se recopiló información a través de la revisión bibliográfica y de encuestas realizadas a los residentes temporales del cayo. Se registraron 40 especies de vertebrados (31 autóctonos y 9 introducidos) que han existido en el cayo. Por primera vez se registran tres especies de aves autóctonas y se identifican los vertebrados que han sido introducidos. Actualmente existen cuatro vertebrados introducidos en el cayo y se identifica al gato como la principal amenaza para la biodiversidad. Five expeditions were performed between 2013 and 2014 to Caimán del Faro cay, north of Villa Clara province, to monitoring of vertebrate fauna, including the introduced species. Moreover, information was compiled by bibliography review and surveys to the temporal residents in the cay. Here are reported 40 vertebrates (31 autochthonous and 9 introduced) that have existed in the cay. For first time are reported three bird species and introduced vertebrates were identified. Currently four introduced vertebrates are present and the wild cat is identified as the principal threat for the biodiversity.
