Estado actual de la población de Quercus sagrana (Fagaceae) en el encinar de Manuel Lazo, Pinar del Río, Cuba

Abstract

Se determinó el estado actual de la población de Quercus sagrana en Manuel Lazo, Pinar del Río. Se realizó un muestreo al azar por parcelas. Se tuvieron en cuenta como estados del ciclo de vida: plántulas, juveniles y adultos. Fueron evaluadas la altura de la planta y el diámetro del tronco en juveniles y adultos, además se determinó el porcentaje de cobertura vegetal de cada parcela. Las plántulas presentan el mayor número de individuos (79.3% de la población). Sin embargo es una población con serios problemas en el remplazo de los adultos por la escasez de juveniles, que solo constituyen el 4.7%. La altura de la planta y el diámetro del tronco varían cuando se analizan ambos lados del vial. En el fragmento oriental se registra el mayor porcentaje de adultos y plántulas de gran tamaño, mientras que en el fragmento occidental son los juveniles los de mayor porcentaje. En este mismo fragmento fueron encontrados los adultos de troncos más gruesos, aunque en el fragmento occidental fue mayor el valor de la mediana y el porcentaje de individuos con tallas superiores a dicho valor (51.0%), mientras que para los juveniles sólo alcanzó el 22.2%. Por otra parte se observa un mayor número de plántulas donde el porcentaje de cobertura vegetal es mayor. Este encinar está sometido a una alta presión antrópica, afectándolo de manera negativa, especialmente a los juveniles y se deben establecer acciones en aras de mejorar el estado de conservación de la población de encino y del ecosistema. In this paper the current status of the population of Quercus sagrana in the oak´s forest of Manuel Lazo was determined. For the study a random sampling by plots was carried out. During the study were considered as stages: seedlings, juveniles and adults. The height of the plant were evaluated in all the stages and the diameter of the trunk only in juveniles and adults, in addition was determined the percentage of vegetal cover of each plot. Seedlings proved to be the stage with the largest number of individuals, representing 79.3% of the population. However, a population with serious problems in the replacement of the adults due to the scarcity of juveniles, which constitute only 4.7%. The height of the plant and the diameter of the trunk vary when analyzing. In the eastern fragment adults and seedlings registers the biggest percentage of individuals of great size, while in the western fragment juvenile present the bigger percentage above the media. In the adults the diameter of the trunk in the western fragment is bigger with 51.0% of individuals, nevertheless juvenile in this fragment where alone 22.2% of the individuals. On the other hand, a greater number of seedlings are observed in those plots where the percentage of canopy cover is higher. The oak´s forest of Manuel Lazo is subjected to a high human pressure that is affecting all the stages, especially the juvenile and actions should be taking for the oak population's conservation and the ecosystem.
