Los adelantos de la agricultura, la modernidad que llegó con la época post-Segunda Guerra Mundial y su Revolución verde, provocaron costos ambientales, sociales y económicos demasiado altos, y los bosques han sido fuertemente afectados por tal causa. Ante tanta incertidumbre corresponde a los bosques, patrimonio de la humanidad, y pulmones del mundo un papel preponderante en la “guerra por la sostenibilidad económica y ecológica”, Entregándosele a las instituciones científicas que forman parte del Sector Forestal, o que se encuentran entre sus entidades relacionadas, la responsabilidad de proponer soluciones a la parte técnica y productiva de dicho Sector.
