El desarrollo local es un tema de importancia y actualidad internacional y nacional. En Cuba revisten especial interés. Desde inicios de la década de los 90s se ha venido difundiendo un amplio movimiento en función de la concepción y puesta en práctica de numerosos programas de desarrollo, con carácter participativo, con el fin de concientizar a la comunidad con los problemas de su entorno y de potenciar sus capacidades para contribuir a las soluciones. En tal sentido el proyecto “Transformación del espacio local”, que centró el Instituto de Geografía Tropical, definió en la fase de caracterización dinámica los principales cambios espaciales operados y las fortalezas y debilidades para enfrentar el nuevo desarrollo en el territorio del Consejo Popular Vedado - Malecón, objeto de la investigación. En una etapa posterior de investigación en el mismo territorio, se dio la necesidad de conocer los bienes culturales que integran el patrimonio del mismo, pues constituyen testimonios tangibles del pasado, del presente y del futuro, y por lo tanto representan los cimientos sobre los que se levanta la cultura del Consejo Popular y su propia realidad histórica. El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer algunos conceptos relacionados con la temática a partir de la relación patrimonio y desarrollo local y algunas de las construcciones y sitios de interés que forman parte del patrimonio cultural en el Consejo Popular Vedado Malecón. Since the beginning of the 90s a broad movement has been disseminating in terms of the conception and implementation of numerous development programs, with a participatory nature, in order to raise awareness among the community with the problems of their environment and enhance their capabilities to contribute to solutions. In this sense the project "Transformation of local space", which focused the Institute of Tropical Geography, defined in the dynamic characterization phase the main spatial changes operated and the strengths and weaknesses to face the new development in the territory of the Popular Council of Vedado - Malecón, object of the investigation. At a later stage of research in the same territory, there was a need to know the cultural assets that make up the heritage of it, because they are tangible testimonies of the past, present and future, and therefore represent the foundations on which the culture of the Popular Council and its own historical reality are raised. The objective of this work is to know some concepts related to the theme from the relationship heritage and local development and some of the buildings and sites of interest that are part of the cultural heritage in the Popular Council Vedado Malecón.
