Historia ambiental y estado actual de la Cuenca del Río Itabo, Ciudad de la Habana, Cuba.

Abstract

La historia ambiental de cualquier zona, región o proyecto no es más que un recuento de la actividad del hombre y la sociedad sobre el territorio, su forma de ocupación, utilización de sus recursos, tanto naturales como humanos y en que medida esta explotación ha transformado ese espacio geográfico a través del tiempo, hasta conformar el medio ambiente actual” (Mosquera et al, 2001). Para la caracterización del medio ambiente es necesario la integración de la información de los diferentes elementos que lo componen, las unidades ambientales se delimitan como sistemas funcionales con estructura espacial propia, cuyos componentes y procesos se relacionan entre sí, y a las que llamamos geosistemas. En el área de estudio, la formación de los geosistemas ha estado influida por la superposición de elementos antrópicos y naturales que dan como resultado una combinación de geosistemas con diferentes grado de modificación. Las acciones principales que se han realizado en el decursar histórico y que han influido en la conformación geoecológica son: tala de la vegetación original; y sustitución parcial por especies exóticas, relleno de la parte occidental de la laguna costera, creación de plataformas para construcción de viales y edificaciones (algunas veces sobre la duna y otras sobre la laguna), y siembra de causarina; extracciones de arena para fines constructivos; vertimiento de residuos sólidos y de petróleo al mar. Al igual que otros sectores de las Playas del Este, pero en menor magnitud, la desembocadura del río Itabo ha sufrido un proceso de asimilación económica dirigido al turismo y veraneo que ha provocado transformaciones en su naturaleza con influencia directa sobre la sociedad. The main actions that have been carried out in the historical course and that have influenced the geoecological conformation are: felling of the original vegetation; and partial substitution by exotic species, filling of the western part of the coastal lagoon, creation of platforms for construction of roads and buildings (sometimes on the dune and others on the lagoon), and sowing of causative material; sand extractions for construction purposes; dumping of solid waste and oil to the sea. Like other sectors of the East Beaches, but to a lesser extent, the mouth of the Itabo River has suffered a process of economic assimilation aimed at tourism and summer that has caused changes in its nature with direct influence on society.
