Particularidades intraespecíficas de la alimentación de Cichlasoma tetracanthun (Pisces: Cichlidae), en el embalse Del Medio-Las Nuevas, Isla de la Juventud

Abstract

Se realizaron capturas de Cichlasoma tetracanthum, con un chinchorro, a intervalos de tres horas, en un embalse de la Isla de la Juventud en diciembre de 1982. Los contenidos estomacales se procesaron por el método gravimétrico. El alimento incluyo detrito, macrófitos, insectos, crustáceos, escamas y peces. Con el aumento de tamaño de los individuos, la porción animal del alimento tendió a crecer y dentro de esta, especialmente los artículos alimentarios de mayor tamaño relativo como los peces y los decápodos, lo que fue más notable en las hembras. En los individuos de longitud total a partir de los 116 mm, las hembras hicieron su mayor consumo durante el período diurno, mientras que los machos, durante la noche. In December 1982, several catches of Cichlasoma tetracanthus were carried out using a beach seine at 3-hour intervals in a reservoir located at the Isle of Youth. Contents of the fishes stomachs were procesed by means of the gravimetric method. Food included detritus, macrophytes, insects, crustacea, scales and fishes. The animal portion of the food increased with the size increase of the individuals, specially those dietary elements showing a greater relative size such as fishes and decapods. This turned to be more remarkable for females. In individuals greater than 115 mm of total length, females were responsible for the higher consumption during the day and males during the night. (sic)
