Principales transformaciones ambientales en el tercio superior de la cuenca del rio Caroní, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela.

Abstract

En el presente artículo se abordan las transformaciones ambientales ocurridas en tercio superior de la cuenca del río Caroní, la cual ha sufrido en los últimos años intensos cambios con la proliferación de la minería a mediana y pequeña escala, que desde finales del siglo XX se habían adentrado en la selva y el deterioro es impresionante, con muy pocas posibilidades de recuperación. Las migraciones de pobladores se originaban de todas las regiones del país e incluso de países fronterizos en busca de oro y diamante. La posible disminución de estas afectaciones están basadas en la necesidad de asumir la actividad de manera controlada y a pequeña escala por el gobierno, porque mientras exista el mineral y sea tan bien cotizado en el mercado, continuarán las acciones destructivas para su extracción y la convivencia en la cuenca se hará insostenible. Numerosas acciones de rehabilitación llevadas a cabo por distintas entidades venezolanas y cubanas han comenzado a marcar los cambios positivos de la zona pero sigue siendo el control estatal de la actividad la principal acción para frenar el deterioro. This paper talks about the environmental transformations happened in third superior of basin of the river Caroní, that has suffered in the last years intense changes with the proliferation from the mining to medium and small scale, the mining had gone into in the forest at the end of the XX century and the deterioration is impressive, with very few recovery possibilities. The migrations of residents of all the regions are original of the country and even of border countries in search of gold and diamond. The possible decrease of these affectations is based in the necessity of assuming the activity in a controlled way and to small scale for the government, because while the mineral exists and be so well quoted in the market, the destructive actions will continue for its extraction and the coexistence in the basin it will become untenable. Many rehabilitation actions carried out by Venezuelan and Cubans entities have begun to mark the positive changes of the area but it continues being the state control of the activity the main action to break the deterioration.
