Colecciones para la diversidad biológica

Abstract

La mercantilización de la taxonomía con la absolutización de los resultados obtenidos a partir de las tecnologías de punta, ha repercutido negativamente en las colecciones biológicas, al promover la desvalorización utilitaria y ética de las mismas, impidiendo su adecuado crecimiento en riqueza y representatividad, retardando el conocimiento sobre la biodiversidad, al entorpecer la identificación de nuevos taxones y la determinación de su posición filogenética. Aunque reconocidas como parte del patrimonio natural y cultural, no son tratadas como el resto de los bienes patrimoniales debido a sus altos niveles de autodeterioro, la inestabilidad de sus ejemplares, la carencia de estudios sistemáticos y de metodologías estandarizadas para su conservación y al desconocimiento generalizado de su valor real como bienes patrimoniales. El objetivo general de este trabajo es evidenciar aquellos aspectos que más afectan el desarrollo y conservación de las colecciones biológicas, en su carácter dual como parte del patrimonio natural y cultural y valorar su efecto sobre el estudio y conservación de la diversidad biológica y por consiguiente del uso sostenible de los recursos naturales./The commercial exploitation of the taxonomy, with the absolutism of the results obtained by modern technologies have affected negatively the biological collections by promoting their ethical and utilitarian depreciation. The latter hinders the proper growth in richness of the collections, holding up the knowledge on the biodiversity by making difficult the description of new taxa and the clarification of their phylogenetic position. The Biological collections are recognized as part of the natural and cultural heritage of the nations. However, they are not treated as other components of such heritage, due to the high levels of self-deterioration and instability of the specimens, the scarcity of standardized methodologies for their conservation and the lack of knowledge on their real value as part of the cultural heritage. The aim of the present paper is to show the issues that affect the development and conservation of the biological collections, due to their dual nature as part of the natural and cultural heritage, as well as to evaluate their effect on the study and conservation of the biodiversity.
