Valoración económica de los Bienes y Servicios ambientales de los bosques de la Ciénaga de Zapata

Abstract

La Ciénaga de Zapata es uno de los macizos boscosos de mayor importancia en el país. Además de su extraordinario potencial maderable, estos ecosistemas ofrecen otros bienes y servicios ambientales que no son debidamente valorados. No todas las entidades que los aprovechan aportan a su protección y no todos esos valores son tenidos en cuenta. El presente trabajo identifica los principales bienes y servicios ambientales que ofrecen estos bosques y se aproxima a su valor total, aportando una fundamentación para que sus receptores aporten a su conservación y protección. La fundamentación de una propuesta de cobro a quienes se benefician de los servicios ambientales que ofrecen los bosques cenagueros, constituye un punto de partida para establecer a nivel nacional, una novedosa forma de emplear instrumentos económicos en aras de incrementar la protección de estos valiosos ecosistemas. El método propuesto permite incluir en los resultados de todas las entidades que reciben los beneficios de estos ecosistemas, la respectiva contribución a su conservación. De esa forma, se promueve la conciencia ambiental de trabajadores y directivos de esos sectores, lo que tiene una influencia positiva y garantizará que los propios bosques provean los fondos suficientes para financiar su protección y conservación. In addition to their extraordinary timber potential, these ecosystems offer other environmental goods and services that are not properly valued. Not all entities that take advantage of them contribute to their protection and not all of these values ​​are taken into account. This paper identifies the main environmental goods and services offered by these forests and approximates their total value, providing a foundation for their recipients to contribute to their conservation and protection. The foundation of a proposal to charge those who benefit from the environmental services offered by the swamp forests, constitutes a starting point to establish at the national level, a novel way of using economic instruments in order to increase the protection of these valuable ecosystems. The proposed method allows including in the results of all the entities that receive the benefits of these ecosystems, the respective contribution to their conservation. In this way, the environmental awareness of workers and managers in these sectors is promoted, which has a positive influence and will guarantee that the forests themselves provide the sufficient funds to finance its protection and conservation.
