La familia Ptiliidae en Cuba (Insecta: Coleoptera)

Abstract

La familia Ptiliidae comprende a los escarabajos más pequeños, los cuales están entre los insectos menores del reino animal. Los tílidos son llamados escarabajos alas de plumas debido a la semejanza de las alas, con esa estructura de las aves. Viven en hábitats húmedos, incluyendo la hojarasca del suelo, madera en descomposición, hongos, huecos de los árboles, excrementos de mamíferos (como el guano de los murciélagos en las cuevas) y nidos de hormigas. En este trabajo revisamos la información disponible sobre esta familia y ofrecemos datos que faciliten e incentiven el estudio de esta. Identificamos por primera vez la presencia en Cuba del género Achritrichis (Acrotrichinae). Este es el género con más especies y mejor distribuido en el mundo. The Ptiliidae family includes the smaller beetles which are among the smallest insects in the animal kingdom. The tylids beetles are called feathered wings due to the similarity of the wings with the structure of birds. They live in moist habitats, including leaf litter, decaying wood, fungi, tree holes, droppings mammals (such as bat guano in caves) and ant nests. In this paper we review the aviable information on this family and provide data that facilitate and encourage the study of this. For the first time we identified the presence in Cuba of genus Achritrichis (Achrotrichinae). This is the genus with more and better distributed species in the Word.
