Mariposas de los alrededores de Gibara, Holguín, Cuba (Lepidoptera: Hesperioidea y Papilionoidea)

Abstract

A list of 117 butterfly species inhabiting the vicinity of Gibara, Holguín, Cuba is offered. Observations and collections around Gibara village, covering from Lomas de Copeisillo to Parque Eólico, were performed between 2000 and 2015. Richest families were Nymphalidae, 39 species, Hesperiidae, 30, and Pieridae, 29. 39 endemic taxa were recorded, 16 species and 21 subspecies. The records of Holguinia holguin y Chioides marmorosa (Hesperiidae) and Kricogonia cabrerai (Pieridae) are noteworthy.
