Abstract

El turismo se ha convertido en una de las actividades socioeconómicas más importante a escala mundial. Existe la certeza de que el crecimiento del turismo seguirá siendo consistente en las próximas décadas. Las regiones tropicales se han convertido por excelencia en destinos de sol y playa priorizando la belleza de sus playas, la transparencia de sus aguas y la calidad de la arena, sobreexplotando este recurso y dejando de vincular otros que son tan importantes que contribuyen a la diversidad de opcionales. Para un mayor aprovechamiento del potencial natural turístico del país se consideró la propuesta del IPF (Instituto de Planificación Física) y las Direcciones Provinciales, de una regionalización turística, en la que se determinaron 16 regiones, 8 de ellas priorizadas y 8 no priorizadas. Dentro de las 8 regiones no priorizadas se destaca la región turística de Caibarién por su amplia riqueza natural, histórica –cultural y la virginidad de sus playas; además cuenta con infraestructura ya existente y un potencial de 6900 habitaciones (el mayor de las no priorizadas y por encima de alguna de las priorizadas), una pista de aerotaxis y una serie de atractivos que hacen de la región un lugar de interés para el turista.
