La estación Experimental Agronómica de Santiago de las Vegas y las Colecciones Entomológicas del Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática.

Abstract

Las colecciones son un importante recurso no renovable de la sociedad, los ejemplares depositados en estas son irremplazables y se convierten en registro testimonial de las transformaciones que tienen lugar en la naturaleza. Las colecciones son útiles para el estudio de la biodiversidad y para el aprovechamiento sostenible en cada etapa del desarrollo de un país. De ahí la necesidad de proveer a las colecciones de un material representativo de grupos de especies y su distribución. En el Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática (IES), CITMA se encuentra la mayor de las colecciones entomológicas de Cuba, con una representación de 62 % de los órdenes de insectos existentes y 7 9041 ejemplares. Este material ha sido preservado y clasificado de acuerdo con los requerimientos de cada uno de los grupos de insectos; es catalogado utilizando para ello tarjetas de 11 x 8 cm donde se recogen todos los datos y colateralmente se guarda esta información en bases de datos que permiten el acceso más rápido a la misma. La colección entomológica del IES tiene como principales objetivos la conservación y el estudio de los ejemplares depositados en la misma, haciendo especial énfasis en Cuba y la región del Caribe. Además, constituye la base de información principal desde el punto de vista científico, medioambiental y divulgativo dirigida a toda la sociedad.The collections are an important non-renewable resource of society, the specimens deposited in them are irreplaceable and become a testimonial record of the transformations that take place in nature. The main objectives of the IES entomological collection are the conservation and study of the specimens deposited there, with special emphasis on Cuba and the Caribbean region. In addition, it constitutes the main information base from the scientific, environmental and informative point of view aimed at the whole society.
