Cartografía Digital de las áreas protegidas de Cuba

Abstract

Nuestro objetivo es presentar el trabajo “Cartografía Digital de las Áreas Protegidas de Cuba”, cuya ejecución es de interés para el Centro Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (CNAP) por su vinculación con el proyecto internacional “Bases para la planificación de las Áreas Protegidas (AP)”, mediante la cartografía digital básica para la planificación, gestión y planes de manejo de dichas áreas en Cuba a escala 1:100 000 con la aplicación de nuevas tecnologías cartográfico-digitales. El propósito general del trabajo es la cartografía digital de las AP de Cuba a partir de imágenes LandSat (1999- 2001) con tablas informativas para la planificación y manejo de éstas, y entre los específicos está la vectorización de la línea costera, determinación de biotopos marinos y cobertura de los suelos, desarrollando un trabajo sistemático de investigación y actualización de los mapas. La información obtenida podrá ser empleada en futuros trabajos de gestión y planificación. En la ejecución de los trabajos se utilizará los software de geoprocesamiento y aplicaciones SIG, para lo cual se ha creado una metodología. Entre los resultados esperados se encuentran la base digital de Cuba con información actualizada y como parte de ésta el mapa de Áreas Protegidas de Cuba, que es un gran logro no sólo de nuestro Instituto sino también de las instituciones del Ministerio de Ciencia Tecnología y Medio Ambiente (CITMA) y para el desarrollo científico de nuestro país, además de elevar la preparación de técnicos y especialistas que garanticen esta obra. Among the expected results are the digital database of Cuba with updated information and as part of this the map of Protected Areas of Cuba, which is a great achievement not only of our Institute but also of the institutions of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) and for the scientific development of our country, in addition to raising the preparation of technicians and specialists to guarantee this work.
