Datos preliminares sobre el arco volcánico cretácico en la región Río Jobabo - Ciudad Las Tunas (Cuba)

Abstract

Se exponen los resultados preliminares de los estudios sobre la litoestratigrafía del complejo vulcanógeno-sedimentario y la presencia de vulcanismo subaéreo en la región Río Jobabo - Ciudad Las Tunas. En esta región se observa la continuación de las unidades litoestratigráficas de los grupos Amancio y Sibanicú y la secuencia Sierra de Rompe. Los grupos mencionados se definieron originalmente al W del Río Jobabo y presentan algunas diferencias con respecto a la continuación al E del río. Estas concepciones representan un paso más en el esclarecimiento del vulcanismo en la región, pues en la actualidad se considera como Formación Buenaventura con una serie de inexactitudes. Además, se presentan las evidencias existentes sobre vulcanismo subaéreo hacia los estadios finales de la actividad. The preliminary results of the studies on the lithostratigraphy of the volcanic-sedimentary complex and the presence of subaerial volcanism in the Río Jobabo - Ciudad Las Tunas region are presented. In this region the continuation of the lithostratigraphic units of the Amancio and Sibanicú groups and the Sierra de Rompe sequence is observed. The mentioned groups were originally defined to the W of the Jobabo River and present some differences with respect to the continuation to the E of the river. These conceptions represent another step in the elucidation of volcanism in the region, since at the present time it is considered as Buenaventura Formation with a series of inaccuracies. In addition, the existing evidence on subaerial volcanism is presented towards the final stages of the activity.
