Funciones de los manglares en la Ensenada de Sibarimar y su valoración económica para el sector Laguna del Cobre-Itabo, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba

Abstract

Los ecosistemas de manglar cumplen valiosas funciones. En Cuba, este particular ecosistema representa el 26% de la superficie boscosa. Los manglares de la Ensenada de Sibarimar constituyen uno de los principales relictos de este tipo de ecosistema en la capital de Cuba, y junto a sus playas y arrecifes coralinos se encuentran entre los principales remanentes de sus ecosistemas originales. En el presente trabajo se identifican las funciones ambientales de los manglares en la Ensenada de Sibarimar y su grado de afectación, particularizando en el sector Laguna el Cobre-Itabo. También se valoran económicamente las funciones de los manglares en el sector Laguna el Cobre-Itabo en relación con la actividad turística. La creciente afectación a las funciones de los manglares puede ocasionar pérdidas de 4772867.07 dólares al turismo en el sector Laguna Cobre-Itabo. Se identificaron 43 funciones ambientales del manglar en la Ensenada de Sibarimar y su sector Laguna del Cobre-Itabo; varias estas funciones tienen alto grado de afectación. Existen vacíos de conocimientos sobre las funciones de los manglares en la Ensenada de Sibarimar y su sector Laguna del Cobre-Itabo, lo cual debe ser introducido en el Proyecto Sibarimar, el cual está dirigido al comanejo de los recursos naturales del territorio y el rescate de las tradiciones culturales del mismo.
