Flora y vegetación de las serpentinas ubicadas al suroeste de Santa Clara, Villa Clara, Cuba

Abstract

Con el objetivo de dar a conocer los valores de la flora y de la vegetación sobre serpentina del suroeste de Santa Clara, se realizó el inventario florístico y el estudio de la vegetación de este territorio. Se ofrece la caracterización de la vegetación autóctona y sobre las actividades antrópicas que en ella se manifiestan; así como, la lista florística que incluye 160 especies de plantas fanerógamas con un 38,75% de endemismo. Entre las especies endémicas, seis son exclusivas del afloramiento de serpentinas de Santa Clara. La desaparición de esta área como resultado del desarrollo urbano de la ciudad de Santa Clara, conducirá a la pérdida de este ecosistema seco típico, de elevada riqueza florística y endemismo.With the objective of publicizing the values ​​of the flora and serpentine vegetation of the southwest of Santa Clara, the floristic inventory and the study of the vegetation of this territory were carried out. The characterization of the autochthonous vegetation and the anthropic activities that are manifested in it are offered; as well as the floristic list that includes 160 species of flowering plants with 38.75% endemism. Among the endemic species, six are exclusive to the Santa Clara serpentine outcrop. The disappearance of this area as a result of the urban development of the city of Santa Clara will lead to the loss of this typical dry ecosystem, with a high floristic richness and endemism. (sic)
