Eriophyes lantanae Cook (Acari: Eriophyidae) en Lantana camara L. en Cuba

Abstract

Eriophyes lantanae, conocido como ácaro de las agallas de la flor de lantana, fue originalmente nombrado en Cuba por la deformación provocada en la flor de esta maleza. El ácaro causa cambios en las flores, al hipertrofiar la yema en estructuras en forma de pequeñas hojas que crecen hacia afuera. Su distribución comprende la Florida y el Caribe en general. En observaciones realizadas en jardines del municipio de Playa durante octubre de 1999 se encontraron síntomas típicos a los producidos por eriófidos, se tomaron muestras de diferentes partes de la planta y fueron analizadas. Eriophyes lantanae, known as the gill mite of the lantana flower, was originally named in Cuba for the deformation provoked in the flower of this weed. The mite causes changes in flowers, by hypertrophying the bud in structures in the form of small leaves that grow outwards. Its distribution includes Florida and the Caribbean in general. Observations carried out in gardens of the municipality of Playa during October 1999 found typical symptoms to those produced by eriophids, samples were taken from different parts of the plant and analyzed.
