Distribución territorial y funcionamiento del transporte ferroviario de pasajeros

Abstract

Las favorables características geográficas de Cuba posibilitan que el ferrocarril, por sus costos sociales, infraestructura y experiencia acumulada durante casi 150 años, se transforme en la arteria básica para las transportaciones masivas, y a medias y largas distancias, tanto de carga como de pasajeros. En el actual quinquenio se deberá asegurar prioritariamente el perfeccionamiento de la estructura del sistema de transporte del país, garantizar el desarrollo y utilización preferencial es del ferrocarril en las transportaciones con vistas a disminuir la distancia media en la explotación del transporte automotor, orientando la utilización de éste en distancias cortas como complemento del sistema ferroviario. Mediante el análisis de los siguientes indicadores distribución de la red de vías férreas, densidad de vías férreas, número de estaciones y movilidad de la población; el presente trabajo se· plantea mostrar la situación actual de los ferrocarriles y su papel en las transportaciones de pasajeros del país.
